Date: Sat, 21 Nov 1998 21:23:11 -0800 (PST) Subject: CSAC Mailing List News Auction News and List of Items follows the mail list news To contribute online: http://www.avalanche-center.org/Organization/contribute/itransact/ Over the next few weeks we will be sending periodic updates and reminders to contribute for our lists. Probably weekly or so. After that we will stop because we will have converted most lists (possibly excluding a few small, infrequent ones) to either a contributions only basis or an underwriting basis. At this time we also will be plugging our online auction which we are hoping will raise some much needed funds for us. (More Below - including a list of items. Be sure to read that far!) As some background for new subscribers and/or those who like the bulletins and don't read our updates, our contribution rate for this service has varied over the past few years from 5-10%. Since it is a direct service, i.e. all bulletins are available elsewhere without coming into your mailbox, we need to do better to justify the work involved in running it. This year most lists will go to a contributors-only basis, probably in a few weeks. $10 remains a requested amount - contribute what you want to and you will remain on the list. Our initial announcement was met with great success, and we thank those who contributed online. Many have contributed more than the $10 requested. We were also able to improve the new credit card interface substantially based on helpful feedback. It's not perfect yet, but problems are few. We also anticipate one list being underwritten through a combination of a fundraising event and major auction contribution. (Which means contributions will be requested but voluntary, as in the past. But without the reminders all season long.) So thanks to those who have already contributed, and to the rest we hope you will. We work very hard at providing this and related services and hope it is worth a modest contribution to you. And check out our online auction at http://i-world.net/csac/auction/ or follow the link from any main section pages. We have a day of snowcat skiing with 2 nights lodging, subscriptions to Ski Canada, skis, snowshoes, avalanche course discounts/enrollments, water purifiers, a crazy creek chair, and a lot more.
