CSAC Mail List System Update November 15, 2000 This is an update on our list system as the distribution systems begin to come into use. We will probably send one more update to all list users in a few weeks when everything is in operation. Due to our server move over the summer we have been monitoring the lists carefully and fixing a few bugs as needed. At this time there are daily bulletins from Utah and Colorado and these seem to be working fine now. While getting them checked out we have had our scripts mail the bulletin to us and we've forwarded it, in case of any problems requiring our intervention. We are ready to have them go immediately to the list without the timelag now. When the Northwest bulletins begin we will need to monitor those for a little while as well. The Eastern Sierra bulletin and the Sun Valley bulletin have come out twice and once, respectively. We have these going directly from the centers to the lists fine but are still working on the routing to the web version. So on these there may be a short delay before they get html posted on the website. We have an incidents update list which is available only to contributors, without any free trial as we have for bulletin distributions. This list lets people know whenever the incidents have been updated, including information which is added much later after the fact. We're sad to report that this list has also come into use, although the good news is that neither of the incidents we've posted were fatal. Please remember that all of the avalanche bulletin lists are ultimately run for contributors to the project. This will not be required for a couple weeks yet, but sometime in December it will be enforced. When we do enforce this policy we leave a couple days between the notice and removal, but it always seems to catch some people off guard. If you find the service useful and reliable, or if you're one of the many people who has had to request a change of some sort from us and received a response from a person in 24-48 hours, please consider contributing to our non-profit avalanche safety work. Thanks, and have a great winter! -- *********************************************************** Cyberspace Snow and Avalanche Center (CSAC) 131 NW 4th St Suite 397, Corvallis OR 97330 #343 - 3495 Cambie St, Vancouver BC V5Z 4R3 (877) 457-0913 (530) 509-7840 Fax http://www.csac.org snow@csac.org ***********************************************************
