Date: Sat, 7 Dec 2002 20:57:24 -0700 (MST) Subject: Bulletin Formats - Two Lists (fwd) This was sent to the Colorado and Utah lists After thinking about it yesterday I have decided that the best solution is to run two separate lists, one for a text version and one for an html version. There is clearly interest in both formats and separate lists should avoid forcing problems on anyone. A few notes about the html version are at the end of this mail. Since I don't know which list people prefer I have copied the existing list file to the new one so everyone will be subscribed to both versions. It is much easier to unsubscribe yourself than to subscribe since the latter requires authentication. This also allows everyone to see how both versions come through for them and then make their choice. I have tried to make it as easy as possible to unsubscribe from the one you don't want. On the html list (and the webpage for the bulletin) there is a line at the bottom for subscribing - this now has separate links for the text and html lists. Click on the one you want to get off of, and when you see the form uncheck "subscribe" and check "unsubscribe". That's all there is to it. From the text version there is an address for the mail lists page at the top, just copy it and paste it into your browser window. That page allows you to subscribe or unsubscribe from any of our lists via the online interface and also has a page describing how to unsubscribe by e-mail. Hopefully, if all goes well, this will be the last non-bulletin email I will need to send to the list. Thanks for your patience during my efforts at offering additional options on the e-mail service. About the html version - We are just sending a copy of the web-posted page to the list, right from the server. There are no graphics included in the mail at this point. This keeps the size of the e-mail reasonable. There is a header which specifies that all links for the graphics and the glossed terms are relative to our home page. If you are not online when you read the bulletin you may or may not see the graphics, but the formatting should be correct other than that. If you have visited the webpage recently or read a previous issue while online the graphics may be in your cache and appear anyway. You will not be able to follow the links to the glossary if you are not online. But the links will still call attention to key terms, and these will show up highlighted if you print out the html version to post or distribute. If you prefer the html version but it does not come through properly please let us know. In the short term you may need to stay with the text version, but if we have multiple reports of the same problem I will make an effort to fix it.
