Bed Surface

Also: Bed Layer

The surface on which a slab avalanche slides, usually the exposed surface after such an avalanche. Most commonly this is the surface of a layer within the snowpack (the "Bed Layer"), although it is sometimes the underlying ground. This should not be confused with the weak layer.
