sportscotland Avalanche Information Service SNOW AND AVALANCHE REPORT GLENCOE AVALANCHE HAZARD FRI 23/01/2009 Snow showers above 300 metres and South-Westerly winds have deposited new areas of soft slab in sheltered locations and field tests showed several weakly bonded layers within the snowpack. The greatest accumulations of unstable snow is above 850 metres on North-West through North to East aspects. The avalanche hazard is Considerable (Category 3). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK SAT 24/01/2009 Snow showers will continue to affect the area with West-South-West winds overnight. Snow showers should become less frequent during the day however areas of unstable snow will continue to form in sheltered locations. Weak cornices will continue to grow over these locations and be prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable (Category 3).
