Following is a brief summary of an article in The Boston
Globe of 4/29/95:

Steve Carroll and Philip Kauffman, both graduates of MIT 
in the early 80s and Patrick Simmons of Seattle died in
an avalanche on Mt. Orville in Alaska.  Carroll currently
was from South Hampton, NH and Kauffman was 
currently from Seattle.  Mt Orville is 10,495 ft and
is in Glacier Bay National Park.  They apparently 
successfully summitted and were descending when an
avalanche hit them and carried them 2000 ft down.
All of them were killed.  This was apparently the
1st ascent of Mt. Orville.  It was their 3rd attempt
at climbing Mt. Orville since 1992. The avalanche was
probably precipitated by unseasonably warm weather.
All three had been climbing for about 15 years and 
had lots of experience.  This happened on Monday 4/24.
