Update - Cyberspace Snow and Avalanche Center http://www.csac.org Things are extremely busy here this time of year, but here is a quick update on our web site and organization. General News The CSAC web site has just recently won two awards. We have been deemed by Netguide magazine to be a "Gold" site. The logo on our home page is linked to their rating of our site (four stars in each category). They claim that about 15% of reviewed sites meet the criteria for this award. We have also been selected as an "Editors Choice" site by LookSmart, which is apparently given to about 10% of the sites they check out. We have just finished attending the Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City where we were able to gain a great deal of exposure in the industry. This, along with increasing web visits, will hopefully lead to additional sponsors. (Meanwhile - thanks to those of you who contribute!) We also have one new sponsor for our "Other Cool Stuff" page. Alpengroup is a group of Professionals in the Tahoe Calif area, and more about them should be linked to their logo soon. Welcome and Thanks to Alpengroup! Life-Link, one of our sponsors, now has some web pages up. Click the logo on the home page or the Current Conditions page. Bulletins We have added a link to the bulletins for Catalonia, Spain. The Logan Utah bulletin is now online and that is linked in also. We are working on additional info for California. The Sun Valley Idaho bulletin is now posted daily, and there is a link to snow conditions for the ID panhandle. We receive many requests about Colorado, which remains the only Western US bulletin not online. We can not answer for them, and all requests about this should be directed to the CAIC. We would like to get a regular feed for Mt Washington in NH but have not had time to pursue that yet. Incidents Lots of new stuff here. Unfortunately. Maintaining this gets old about now. However, it is very popular and now rivals the Current Conditions section in accesses. We are now posting all info in a new html format. We are not using NEW or UPDATED graphics this year, since it seems too much like commercializing on accidents. Incidents are listed in reverse chronological order. Since info takes varying amounts of time to come in it s up to interested people to check back once in a while for new entries and additional info in older report files. Other Cool Stuff Not too much has happened here for a while. We hope to do a number of things, but it may be a few weeks yet. Our first sponsor for this area, Alpengroup, will be providing some new material. Education This section has temporarily fallen by the wayside as far as updating goes. Several projects are underway but not complete, and it may be a few weeks before we get back to this. However, there are good resources available through this section if you have not checked it out. A few things were added to the Research page a while ago. Store Our store is coming along ok. We will be adding some products soon which we lined up at the recent Retailer show. Sales are modest, which is allowing us to expand at a reasonable rate as we figure out how to run a retail fundraising project. Remember that purchases through our store help fund the project. Thanks for all the support for and interest in the Avalanche Center. We have been on the web only about 15-16 months and the project has grown rapidly.
